HUEJ started off this past week with a fun baking and poster-making night on Tuesday! We cooked brownies, pieced together a Halloween-themed gingerbread house, and designed our HUEJ poster. We then traveled to the Harvard Democrats Action Party, where we presented about the current goals and initiatives our club is undertaking. We encouraged everyone at the meeting to participate in two action items, 1) telling your representatives to say no to fossil fuel money and 2) telling the Trump administration you care about clean energy.
On Wednesday and Thursday, our Political Action Co-Chairs and Social Co-Chairs helped organize flyering sessions in the Science Center. The flyers contained information regarding the eleven ballot measures across the country that include environmental initiatives. We encouraged people to vote and to join our club!
During our meeting on Saturday from 5:30-6:30pm, we discussed more activities to come, such as beginning research projects for divest, creating a speaker series, developing a curriculum for HPIE (Harvard Program for International Education), bringing people together to support the green orientation initiative, and more. If you would like to join in planning these events, join a committee or reach out at firstname.lastname@example.org. We then conducted a phone-banking session for Congressional candidate Jess King, who has signed the No Fossil Fuel Money Pledge. Finally, we encouraged everyone to write a public comment on the environmentally unconscious Affordable Clean Energy Rule. Follow these steps today, as the comments are due October 31st!
